Bridge project will go on: Alemao

MARGAO- Barely 24-hours after some residents of Sinquetim opposed the bridge connecting Benaulim and Sinquetim, the PWD Minister, Mr Churchill Alemao on Monday vowed to complete the bridge, saying that it has been a long-standing demand of the people.
Mr Alemao assured that no house and compound wall would be demolished on account of the bridge or the approach road.
Making a scathing attack on his predecessor, Mr Alemao said his predecessor had done nothing for the people of his constituency and cannot digest the fact that he (Alemao) was going to fulfill the aspirations of the people. He said that his predecessor had done nothing for Navelim constituency in spite of representing it for many years. He informed that 70 per cent of the recent vacancies in the PWD have been filled by people of Navelim constituency.
Mr Alemao was reacting to the resolution by the Navelim gram sabha, demanding the scraping of the bridge. He held an emergency meeting at Varca, late on Monday evening, which was attended by sarpanchas of Navelim, Varca, Cavelossim, besides others.
Mr Alemao informed that he has no hidden agenda as far as the bridge is concerned and that his mind is clean. He said he was only going ahead for the sake of the people to meet their future requirements. He reiterated that he would not let the bridge harm anybody from his constituency.
Various speakers also highlighted the need of the bridge and expressed support to the project and to Mr Alemao. The speakers also urged the PWD minister to complete the bridge as soon
as possible.
