Da Man Da Look: Da Complete Man

If you thought only women dash into jewellery stores to make purchases and enhance their already huge collections, you are wrong. Fashion designers and jewellery outlet owners will vouch that these days, the male gender is extremely conscious about wearing the right jewellery and accessories to create the right impression.
Chatting with men from various spheres of life is enlightening as to what they think of sparkling stuff. It is interesting to get to know what our bureaucrat prefers. Dr Benjamin Braganza, MD of GTDC agrees, “Yes, the men are definitely getting more stylish,” but the suave gentleman has a different opinion, “But most of them are into flaunting of an artificial prosperity. Many might not even have the money, but they wear heavy gold stuff.”
He assertively questions, “A truly confident person will not need to deck up with jewellery to feel good. Perhaps, a single finger ring or a simple chain will suffice.” The gentleman elicits laughter when he concludes candidly, “Going senselessly all out to put on a display for others is just not worth it, unless your wife can afford to buy you an expensive piece of jewellery.”
Even while chatting, there is a certain cool cadence in the flow of words with musician, Hayden D’ Souza, as he opines, “Yes, men are definitely decking up more today, though on a personal level, I don’t agree with the tattoo. Many ask me to go for one, but I am against it as it is permanent and I might be stuck if I outgrow my liking for it.”
He continues, “I think it’s cool when a DJ sports a huge tattoo as it goes with his profession. Like in my case, I play the guitar, so I wear many kinds of fashionable finger rings. I also like to dress differently to stand out in a crowd, like perhaps even wearing a hat and walking down the street, I think it’s cool!”
Yes, it is evident that majority of men sport a dressing sense and accessorise in tune with their professions and who better to enlighten us on this front than our favourite ace fashion designer, Wendell Rodricks. Pleasantly, he purrs, “Personally, I don’t like wearing any jewellery. But yes, men are evolving into more fashion conscious beings.”
He continues, “There was a time in the 70s, 80s or even 90s when there was this typical male style of wearing those dense gold or silver chains, bracelets or bangles. But, that is grossly unfashionable now, as the guys are going in for tattoos, earings and body piercing as ornaments.”
Enlightening us further, he says, “The corporate world is investing more in quality products. They would go in for classy shoes, notebook bags and briefcases of top quality leather and expensive sunglasses as ornamental accessories. In fact, these days, they flaunt expensive gizmos like mobile phones and Blackberry. They also wear very well-jewelled tie-pins and cufflinks.”
Interestingly, the designer adds that men treat good underwear as ornaments. He says, “You will be surprised to know that the male underwear market is really booming. Today, with low slung trousers, men love to show off a Calvin Klein band peeping out of their pants.”
This rings a bell of fashion designer, Monty Sally, quipping humorously as he has one in peals, “Actually, men are always hoping to get out of their pants as for them hope springs eternal. So, men are more conscious of what they wear inside.”
When it comes to fashion, what can we say? To each his own! Every person’s style reflects his unique character. While there are many who love to don the ornamental look, there is something specially alluring about a simple man with perhaps a single Mont Blanc pen or a good watch. Most of all, wear your good qualities and winning traits to send a loud message to your lady that you are the complete man.
Forget the Greek gods with their gorgeous looks and firm handshakes. After all, is there anything to parallel the beauty of your throaty laughter, the heroism of your courage as you acknowledge your lady or the wittiness of your sense of humour and the simplicity of your humble, beautiful soul? The best jewels you can sport!
