Crimes against foreigners on the rise in Salcete

MARGAO- Even though Colva police claim that police patrolling has been intensified on the coastal belt of Salcete, the cases of bag snatching, mostly of foreigners, thefts of their belonging from hotels etc has continued and has even begun to rise. Even an incident of molesting of a foreigner has occurred on the Colva beach. Police said that as an added measure, police personnel have been posted at important places.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old security guard arrested by Colva police for allegedly molesting a 25-year-old foreigner was produced before the Margao court and two-day remand has been taken. The incident was reported on Friday night while the mother-daughter duo was walking from the beach to the hotel.
Police said that the alleged accused Bascandar Singh of UP tried to molested the Russian girl and punched the mother on her nose when she tried to defend her daughter. Offence under section 354, 341, 323 of IPC has been registered.
Cases of bag snatching are on the rise and the police are in search of a gang. Most of cases of bag snatching reported in the past have remained undetected.
On Thursday night two persons who came on a motorcycle snatched a bag containing US dollars, electronic goods like mobile camera and other items, from a foreigner while she was strolling on the beach at Colva.
In another incident a gold ring along with other documents were stolen by two persons. Also Indian currency of around Rs 3000 was stolen.
In another incident some unknown person effected entry into a hotel room at Sernabhatim and took away electronic goods, cash around Rs 30,000 and three gold rings, while the foreign owners of the same were out of the premises.
Police said investigations into all these cases were in progress.
