Fomento group seeks to handle Sonsodo garbage

MARGAO- When all looked lost and gone for Sonsodo dump yard, the Fomento group has expressed desire to take up the project as part of their corporate-social responsibility. Fomento along with IL&FS Ecosmart Ltd on Wednesday made a presentation before the Margao municipal council to explain the modalities of the project.
The presentation was attended by the chief officer of Margao, Mr Y B Tavde, councillors and senior officials from Fomento and IF&LS. During the presentation, the company, which is currently handling a 200 tonne garbage treatment facility in Okla in Delhi gave detailed report on handling of the garbage at Sonsodo.
Senior manager personal administration of Fomento Group of Companies, Mr Menino Cota informed that the chairman and managing director, Mr Auduth Timblo wanted to take up the project as he wants to clean up Margao and Sonsodo and that the company will be fully financing the project. The Mr Cota also informed that the company proposes to set a 50 tonne plant at the site which will cater to handling the garbage requirement of Margao and will work in close co-ordination with the MMC to get all the clearances. During the presentation, the IL&FS sought that the present garbage at the site be removed and transported to another site so that it can be used for land filling. The company also made few suggestions to tackle the garbage at source besides isolating the site from animals and pets.
Mr Cota informed that the company is awaiting the government’s clearance for the project.
