The son of a gigantic personality late Goy Shahir Ulhas Buyao, Sidhanath Buyao is in the spotlight today, a new performer sitting with his guitar singing out memories of one of our great Goans.
Having his music performances held at many places in Goa, Sidhanath will now showcase his new latest performance titled, ‘A tribute to Goem Shahir’ singing his own styled slow versions of the lyrics of the famous poets that the Goy Shahir had composed of late Dr Manohar Rai Sardesai’s Tum Amchi Avoy, late Shankar Bhandari’s Godd Godd Mekllya Gollyant; Vijay Gaitonde’s Deva Mhojya Deva; Uday Bhembre’s Channyache Ratim and also lyrics of his late father written on Padmashree Shri Vasantrao Dempo - Vasant tum kirtivant tum Bharat bhuinche mallba vele zagzagit noketra tum.
“This is my debut album,” quotes Sidhanath Buyao, sitting pretty in the luxury of his in house studio. “I have lately begun taking on shows on weekends,” he adds. The album contains eight Konkani songs and two Marathi songs and also Gajanan Raiker, Bhikaji Ganekar, Prakash Padgaonkar, Gourish Vernekar, Ramdas Prabhu and Suresh Pai as lyricists.
‘Buyanv with Love’ his latest release showcases a wide range of many things akin to the type of multi-faceted personality that he is in real life. “I believe Nephie Rod has variety in her voice besides being a good singer. She can add life to a song,” Sidhanath comments on the singer whose been singing with him as well as during his father’s productions.
Sidhanath also sang for the late Manohar Rai Sardesai’s lyrics of ‘Xezra chali’. “I was just scrolling through my dad’s papers when I came across this beautiful song of late Manohar Rai Sardesai. Almost instantly, I made up my mind to have it recorded.”
Sidhanath has also come up with another novel concept that of Konkani ghazals. Song number seven titled, ‘Soro’ happens to be his very own contribution to ‘Buyanv with Love’. And yes, for all those with wild imaginations, the words soro and boro do come in a line.
Having first accompanied his dad whenever background singing was required for his songs right from the age of about four, Buyao’s destiny was perhaps made. With his keen interest for music right from his academics at Guardian Angel school, Curchorem and RMS college Margao, his destiny had better shape.
Sidhanath, with his musical inclination, managed to learn the guitar and keyboard all by himself. Of course, gearing himself up with more in-depth learning of sound engineering at a course in Mumbai did give him the final touches to setting up his own studio. This, he set up in 2004 under the ‘Buyao theatres Goem’ banner that was originally registered by the Goy Shahir himself way back in 1967.
