PANAJI- The state government will launch Cyber Treasury facility, part of its e-governance drive, during the opening session of the 12th national conference on e-governance in South Goa on February 12.
Acknowledging that the e-governance is not working smoothly in Goa, the finance secretary, Mr Udipta Ray reiterated that the government wants to reduce its dependence on babudom. At present, issuing revenue related documents as well as birth/death certificates through the citizens’ counters is part of the e-governance drive of the state government, he noted.
Mr Ray told the newsmen on Wednesday that the Governor, Dr S S Siddhu will inaugurate the conference based on the theme ‘e-Governance: Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges’ in the presence of the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat.
The event will provide a platform for practitioners, academicians, industry and consulting sector, and the civil society to come together and deliberate on the emerging challenges, and conceptualise strategies for implementation and managing changes,” he added.
As regards Cyber Treasury facility, the Finance Minister informed, “It will facilitate the on-line payment of taxes through Goa Portal. It will commence on February 12 with the facility of payment of value-added tax through Internet, with the help of the State Bank of India’s credit card,” he stated, pointing out that more accredited banks would soon be roped in.
It was further informed that the payment of excise (central/ state), luxury and entertainment taxes would soon be made possible through Cyber Treasury facility, for which software are being developed.
Around 100 to 150 national and international delegates are expected to attend the national conference on e-governance, besides experts in the field of IT, who would participate in the deliberations. The national awards on e-governance will also be presented in seven categories to various states for their performances in the field of e-governance. The conference will further provide an opportunity to showcase best practices, innovative technologies and ICT solutions by having an exhibition.
