Goenchim Kirnnam tops Ponda mando festival

PANAJI - ‘Goenchim Kirnnam’ won the `Mando Award’ at the 1st All Goa Mando festival organised by Ponda Cultural Association, Ponda in collaboration with the department of Art and Culture, govt of Goa recently at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda.
The group was lead by Prof Cosma Fernandes.
Goenchim Kirnnam won the first place in original mando, first place for traditional mando, first place for music and first place for lyrics besides ‘Mando Award’.
Fr Olavo Caiado won the first prize for lyrics and also for music. Goenchim Kirnnam, the winners of the first all Goa Mando festival were awarded a cash prize with trophy and certificate for original mando and cash prize with a trophy and certificate for traditional mando besides a cash prize for lyrics and music with trophies and certificates. The prizes were awarded at the hands of Mr Ravi Naik who was the chief guest for the concluding ceremony of the festival.
The troupe presented a mando entitled `Fuddle jinnent ravtelim tuka’ in original category composed by Fr Olavo Caiado while in traditional category they presented a traditional mando, ‘Kalliz tukach re bhettoilem’ whose lyrics were written by Tomazinho Cardozo.
The participants of the winning team includes Prof Cosma Fernandes (leader), Olavo Caiado, Atasha D’souza, Fr Peter Simn Mascarenhas, Glenis Mendonca, Ramna Mendonca, Rashmi Menezes, Qeenie Fernandes, Domingos Soares, Luis Fernandes Mollet D’sa, Selvin Braganza and Fr Damaciano Carvalho.
The detail result of the 1st all Goa Mando festival is as follows
In the original mando (seniors) the first place was bagged by Goenchim Kirnnam while the other two places were bagged by Firgojecho Sad, Merces and Nuvemchi Mannkam Motiam.
Goenchim Kirnnam also bagged first place in traditional mando (seniors) while Harmonizers Chorus, Utorda bagged second place. The third place went to Firgojecho Sad, Merces.
In the children’s category, first place was bagged by Firgojecho Sad, Merces while second and third places were bagged by Nuvemchi Mannkam Motiam, and Svadik Nad, Merces respectively. Consolation prize was given to Bhurgeancho Nad, Merces.
For lyrics, first prize was bagged by Fr Olavo Caiado (Goenchim Kirnnam), second prize by Fr Nevil Gracias (Harmonizers Chorus, Utorda) and third Prize by Inacio Palmeiro (Nuvemchi Mannkam Motiam).
Fr Olavo Caiado (Goenchim Kirnnam) bagged first prize in music category while second prize went to Inacio Palmeiro (Nuvemchi Mannkam Motiam).
The judges for the competition were Fr Bernad Cotta, Mr Franisco Noronha and Mr Cruz Fernandes. President of Ponda cultural association, Mr Francis Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
