The common thing that drives most boys crazy is the vehicle. It may be a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler. The passion and desire for bikes is everlasting. Whenever any new vehicle is launched in the market, they will be the first one to browse for the recent updates.
If you are passionate about the different facets that make up bikes and the cars then a career in automobile engineering will definitely interest you.
All you need is an education in automobile engineering. Mr Minguelinho Menezes, lecturer at senior scale, Fr Agnel Polytechnic, Verna said, “To pursue a career in engineering you have to have a degree in BE (automobile) or MTech or ME or a diploma programme in the said field.”
Automobile engineering is a branch of vehicle engineering, incorporating elements of mechanical, electrical, electronic, software and safety engineering as applied to every aspect of designing cars, motorcycles and trucks, from the initial concepts right through to manufacturing them.
Basically speaking, “The automotive engineers are separated in production, design, quality, R&D (Research and Development) and maintenance,” told Mr Gautam Amonkar Automotive researcher in Segment Y and stressed saying, “the job of an automobile engineer is as per the company directions, all standards, market needs and Government rules and regulations.”
The engineer is concerned with the interaction of all systems in the complete automobile. There are multiple components and systems in an automobile that need to function as designed; they must also work in harmony with the complete system.
“The designing and functioning of the components is a concern of the automotive engineers. They are responsible in designing the vehicle, various ancillary parts, improving upon the repair and also on the design,” said Mr Menezes.
After designing the parts they also need to be assembled at the requisite places as planned by the engineers. They plan out the body, engine and transmission placement in order and then place the components in the right framework.
The automotive engineers are responsible for various assessments of the automobiles. For the safety engineering various crash scenarios are tested, fuel economy as well as the fuel emission is checked, the noise, vibration and harshness is also looked upon. The durability and cost factor is also considered.
Mr Menezes said after manufacturing, the automobile is tested on various grounds called the testing tracks, wherein running the automobile on the smooth and the rough track checks its durability. In the same way the various factors influencing the vehicle are checked.
The recent development as seen in the cars is the ABS (anti-lock braking system). This new system maintains equal braking pressure on all four wheels of the vehicle.
The job prospects are plenty, they can work in auto ancillary companies (like Cosch, Denso, Brakes India, etc), research institutes, automobile companies (eg Tata Motors, Maruti, Mahindra, etc) or as lecturers, informed Mr Amonkar.
The only requirements are, passion, skill in mathematics and knowledge of the recent updates in the vehicle.
