Coast Guard to carry out sorties

PANAJI- Intensifying its surveillance on the Arabian Sea, Coast Guards helicopters will carry out sorties in the light of approaching New Year celebrations.
Revealing this to reporters on Tuesday, the superintendent of police, special branch, Mr Atmaram Deshpande said that naval officers, marine policemen and commandos would man the coastal belt of Goa for New Year celebrations.
Mr Deshpande informed that security measures taken during Christmas would be carried on.
He said that troopers of the CISF, the CRPF, the IRB, tourist and traffic police as well as top police officers would be on their toes during New Year celebrations at various places.
He said if anybody is found organising a beach party then that person would be dealt with in accordance with the law. However, there are no restrictions on family enjoying a party on beaches.
“As of now there are no fresh inputs either from central agencies or from any corner about terror threat from any terrorist organisation,’’ the SP said adding that this security arrangements would be in place till January 5, 2009.
He said on the eve of New Year bars, restaurants and playing of amplified music would be allowed till midnight and added that the police would ensure functioning of all high-mast lights during nighttime for the public.
