Vasco DySP apologises over madrassa incident

VASCO- The deputy superintendent of police (DySP), Vasco, Mr Deu Banaulikar on Tuesday apologised to the Muslim community leaders over the recent incident of picking up the girl students from a madrassa in Vasco to verify their antecedents.
He further assured the Muslim community members that the police would take utmost care in not repeating such a kind of mistake.
Mr Banaulikar made this statement at a meeting which was attended by South Goa MP, Mr Francisco Sardinha here in Vasco on Tuesday.
All Goa Pradesh Congress Minority Department chairman, Mr Saifullah Khan, All Goa Muslim Jamaat Association president, Mr Mulla Akbar, Mr Shaikh Bashir, Mr Tahir Daud Carol, Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee president, Mr Sankalp Amonkar besides other Muslim community leaders were present on the occasion.
The South Goa MP was in Vasco on Tuesday to listen to the grievances of the Muslim community and also to enquire into the recent incident wherein the Vasco police had picked up around 90 girl students and teachers of the madrassa located on the second floor of Neogi Mansion. Mr Sardinha appealed to the people all the sections of the society to maintain brotherhood.
“We have to be cautious” said Mr Sardinha and further pointed out that the people should be more vigilant in the backdrop of the recent Mumbai terror attacks. “Since terrorists can strike anywhere in the state as well as at any part of the country, people should unite to fight against the terrorism and should not loose the morals,” he observed.
