Security strengthened in South Goa

MARGAO- Security has been strengthened in South Goa as tourists including foreigners and some high profile visitors are arriving to attend parties to usher in the new year.
The South Goa district police administration has beefed up security arrangements in the view of arrival of politicians and celebrities, particularly, film stars said a police inspector.
Police personnel have been posted at major beaches. One senior police officer said that they are frisking and scanning visitors for the security purpose.
With the Indian tourists flow slowly increasing in coastal belt besides the locals holidaying there, traffic congestions were observed on the roads leading to various beaches.
According to the South Goa superintendent of police, Mr Allan D’sa meeting of the police officers was held over security arrangements to be made.
The security has been beefed up in the view of arrival of celebrities and politicians, he added.
A staff member of Colva police station on duty at Colva beach said that with the tourist flow slowly increasing day by day in the coastal belt, the beach is getting busy with a mixed crowd of overseas and domestic tourists.
Sources at the Colva police said that STD booth owners from South Goa and hotel staff have been alerted and have been directed to inform the police about any clues they get about illegal activities.
Police are keeping a close eye on the activities of Kashmiries and others.
The South Goa SP said that different wings of police and administration will network to keep vigil on all the vital installations.
According to the sources, tourists visit Goa between October and May, but this year the flow of foreigners till now is much less compared to the yesteryears.
One United States national, who was in Margao to purchase clothes said that he comes to Goa every year and visit Salcete, as it has fabulous beaches, and wonderful people.
Sources in police said that one each platoon of CISF has been posted at Colva and Verna.
Sources said that rapid action force has been deployed in South Goa and the coastal security boats are surveiling from Mober to Canacona, Mober to Colva and Colva to Vasco.
