PANAJI- Kalangan will present 'Shivanjali,' a Bharatnatyam Arangetram by their fifth batch of arangetram students comprising of 5 students on December 30 at 5:30 p.m. at Ravindra Bahavan, Margao.
'Kalangan' was established with just the Bharatnatyam faculty with 40 students, today it has the strength of 280 students. They are trained by the Bharatnatyam faculty of Kalangam, Ms Alka Lajmi and Ms Lalan Desai.
The Bharatnatyam faculty of Kalangan is under the direct supervision, care and guidance of Guru, Dr Sucheta Chapekar. She had been awarded Sangeet Acharya (Ph.D) for her thesis on Nritya Ganga. She has recently been honoured by Sangeet Natak Academy Award 2007. Guru Sucheta is the founder of Kalavardhini dance institution, Pune and the Kalavardhini basic Bharatnatyam course devised by her is very popular and has its branches all over Maharashtra, Pune, France and USA.
Ms Alka Lajmi is the disciple of Smt Smita Mahajan and Dr Sucheta Chapekar. She has completed her Bachelor’s degree in Home Science and has completed her Master’s degree in Bharatnatyam from Lalit Kala Kendra, Pune University.
