Panaji- The Superintendent of police, Special Branch, Mr Atmaram Deshpande has stated that police nakabandi in city would continue till January 5. Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times,’ Mr Deshpande said: “During the course of nakabandis since December 23 we neither arrested any suspected person nor seized any vehicle or arms or ammunitions.”
Mr Deshpande said that the police personnel will continue the checking of vehicles till January 5.
The Panaji town police inspector, Mr Francisco Corte and his strong team of police sub inspectors including Mr Narayan Chimulkar, Mr Ratnakar Calagutkar, Mr Tushar Lotlikar, Mr Rahul Parab, Mr Prajyot Fadte, Mr Sunil Gudlar and Mr Arjun Konduskar besides head constables and constables attached to the Town Police Station were literally on their toes since the Mumbai terror attack.
Then came the IFFI, Old Goa church feast, Panaji Church feast, and Christmas season and now the New Year.
He said the nakabandis at Santa Monica jetty, Old Patto Bridge, New Patto Bridge, Four Pillars, Oiltem-Taleigao Market and Diuja Circl have proved helpful to the police and people. Bunkers near Santa Monica jetty, Mira Mar, Cidade de Goa, Hotel Marriots and Dona Paula will be manned by armed policemen, he added.
He said every nakabandi team will comprise of a PSI, one head constable and three constables armed with AK-47 and they will continue to guard throughout
the day. Besides Special police team, QRT Vans and motorcycle mobile teams would be deployed at KTC, Panaji market, Miramar and other sensitive areas and above all police inspector Mr Corte will be himself patrolling during night time to review the security, he informed.
