'Goenchim Kirnam' excels at youth

PANAJI- Goenchim Kirnnam, Goa bagged the first place in folk song and second place in folk dance at the State Youth festival, 2008 organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, government of Goa, held recently at Gomant Vidya Niketan, Margao.
Goenchim Kirnnam, Goa, presented Goan traditional Mando entitled ‘Kaliz Tukach Re Bhettoilem,’ in the folk song category and ‘Vavraddeancho nach’ in folk dance category. The music was arranged and provided by Fr Olavo Caiado while Prof Cosma Fernandes trained the troupe.
The team members of Goenchim Kirnnam, Goa includes Fr Peter Simon Mascarenhas, Atasha D’Souza, Ramina Mendonca, Quenie Fernandes, Worel D’Souza, Domingos Soares, Luis Fernandes, Rashmi Menezes, Fr Damacian Carvalho, Fr Francis Dias, Joe Dias, Vinanti, Agnel, Ansleen Lobo, Mathew, Melinda, Stanley, Kevin, Fr Olavo Caiado and Prof Cosma Fernandes.
Earlier, the troupe participated in the district level State Youth Festival, 2008 and qualified for the finals by securing first place in folk song and third place in folk dance held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
The winners of the State Youth festival will now represent Goa at the National Youth festival to be held at Punjab in January 2009.
Meanwhile, Goenchim Kirnnam, Goa recently participated in the 42nd Mando Festival organised by Goa Cultural and Social Centre in collaboration with Directorate of Art and Culture at Kala Academy where Fr Olavo Caiado secured 1st prize for best lyrics. The troupe also secured second place for best music, which was written by Fr Olavo Caiado. The team participated under the leadership of Prof Cosma Fernandes.
