State has leaped ahead of others, says Churchill

MARGAO- Goa's 47th Liberation Day was celebrated in the state’s commercial capital with the hoisting of the national flag.
Several functions were also organised at various parts of Margao to mark the occasion.
The main function was held at Fatorda stadium and was presided over by the PWD Minister, Mr Churchill Alemao.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Alemao said that even though Goa was liberated 14 years after the country’s Independence, Goa has leaped ahead of other states in the country in terms of development.
He said that even thought the people of Goa are called ‘sosegado,’ they have done exceedingly well.
Speaking further he said prior to him taking over as the PWD Minister, the newly hot-mixed roads used to get spoilt within 6 months, however, he has put a condition on the contractors that the roads have to last a minimum of 3 years.
He also spoke on the unity among the three religions in the state and added that the people of the state have a lot of faith in God and hence no harm will be caused to them.
“The security is very tight,” Mr Alemao pointed out and added that there should not be fears. He also warned mischief-mongers spreading romours that the police will take strong action against them.
Mr Alemao also said that the work on up-gradation of the ESI Hospital has been tendered and that the hospital will be upgraded to a 100-bed super specialty hospital from the current 50-bed hospital.
He lso reviewed the parade by the police and NCC students, which was followed by a cultural programme.
The Fatorda MLA, Mr Damodar Naik, Curtorim MLA, Mr  Aleixo Reginaldo Lorenco, collector, Mr G P Naik, superintendent of police, Mr Allen D’sa, deputy superintendent of police, Mr Umesh Gaonkar, freedom fighters, chairman of Margao Muncipal Council, Mr Savio Coutinho along with councilors, police officials were also present on the occasion. Schools from the entire district also participated in the function.
Meanwhile, as part of the Liberation Day celebrations, the Chief Minister inaugurated Nehru Yuva Kendra’s youth resource centre at animal husbandry complex at Sonsodo in the presence of Mr Mr  Aleixo Reginaldo Lorenco.
