PANAJI- District Magistrate (DM), South Goa, has ordered hotels and guest houses to verify the identity of their guests at the time of check-ins.
The order says that the owners or management of all hotels, lodging and boarding, private guest houses, paying guest accommodations and temporary residential accommodations of all religious bodies not to allow any visitors or guests to check in without providing any photo identity proof.
The proof that can be shown includes the smart card, election card, employment card, ATM card, or any other photo identity card issued by the recognised authority and the incharge of such accommodations shall provide all such facilities for inspection besides the records to the police authorities if so desired by them, says a press communiqué.
They shall also maintain user registers, and any suspicious movement or activities noticed from the users shall forthwith be brought to the notice of the nearest police station.
Any person contravening this order shall be punished under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code, says the communiqué adding that the order shall remain in operation for a period of 60 days unless withdrawn earlier.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate, South Goa in exercise of the powers vested under Section 144 of the code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 has made it mandatory for owners and management of the Private Security Agencies to register the details of the employees along with photo identity with the concerned government agency with a copy of the information to the police station under whose jurisdiction the head office is situated or their staff is deployed.
