Draft report on Goan migration being scrutinised, says Faleiro

PANAJI - The Commissioner for NRI Affairs, Mr Eduardo Faleiro has said that the Draft Report on Goan Migration abroad was submitted to his office and is being scrutinised.
The Department of NRI Affairs had commissioned this comprehensive survey to the Centre for Development Studies, a government-India organisation. The final report will be released early next year. 
Mr Faleiro said that his office will also initiate a comprehensive survey next year on migration into Goa both of people from other states of India as well as foreigners and will identify their activities and different aspects of their stay in Goa.
Mr Faleiro was speaking at the round-table on ‘Germans in Goa/Goans in Germany Towards a Better Cross Cultural understanding’ organised by Indo-German Friendship Society, Goa as part of their 1st German Cultural Days programme being held from December 12 to 14.
Mr Falerio also said that Indo-German relations have been consistently cordial and friendly. Germany is presently India’s largest trading partner in Europe. About one and half lakh visas to visit India are issued every year by our Embassy in Berlin and our consulates in Franfurt, Munich and Hamburg. Mr Faleiro said that there are about 60 thousand Indian citizens and people of Indian origin living in Germany.
He said that about 4,000 Indian students are presently studying in Germany. There are 3 schools in Germany with Indian names such as Mahatma Gandhi School and Rabindranath Tagore schools in Berlin and Jawaharlal Nehru School in Neusterlitz. Ambassador V K Grover who was the guest of honour also made his observations. Three Goans residing in Germany and three Germans residing in Goa, discussed the goals to promote understanding between Goans and Germans. Dr Aurbindo Xavier, Dr Venktesh Dessai, Ms Elvin Stief, Karl Heinz Tefznar and Mr Lephard Brook were also present on the occasion.
