PANAJI - Further statements of the minor girl, whose mother had accused the kin of some cabinet ministers of sexually using her, would be recorded, and the hard disk of the computer would be attached too, said police sources and expressed confidence that the mother would extend her cooperation to the investigation.
They also argued that the investigation would reach its logical conclusion, despite all the twists and turns and the big names involved.
“The investigation will go on till the end. Whatever has to be done legally, will be done,” reiterated the superintendent of police, North, Mr Bosco George on Thursday.
The police have to file a progress report within a week to the High Court. The court had taken suo moto cognisance of the case and had asked the police to give it details about their investigation recently.
It may be recalled that this case, which had generated a lot of interest due to the personalities involved, had seen the mother’s legal counsel withdrawing himself from the case midstream (on Wednesday) because of an alleged communication gap.
On October 2, the mother had registered a complaint with the Calangute police station naming Mr Rohit Monserrate, the son of the Education Minister, Mr Atanasio Monserrate of sexually using her minor daughter.
The police, after initial hedging due to the delay in recording of the victim’s statement had arrested Mr Rohit, who is out on bail now after six days in custody, only after the recording of the statement and medical test.
Earlier, the mother had surprisingly written a letter alleging system failure and harassment on November 9. However, after that the mother met the SP, Mr George at his office and had some discussions with him.
The police even after the withdrawal of the letter and before speaking to her had expressed confidence that the case would hold up and reiterated that they would be pressing forward with it, while privately saying that the victim’s further statements as well as her cooperation were needed.
