MARGAO- Two separate press conferences, one addressed by ladies consisting of several elected representatives from Salcete and other ‘The Youth of Salcete’ an all-men group in a city hotel, condemned Mr Aires Rodrigues for dragging Mr Warren Alemao into the alleged rape case of a minor German girl and showed total solidarity to him in his fight for justice. Incidentally once the press meet was over, the organisers burnt the effigy of Mr Aires Rodrigues on the road.
Elected representatives like Ms Nelly Rodrigues, Ms Maria Rebello, (both Zilla panchayat members for South Goa ZP) and other prominent ladies from Salcete taluka such as Ms Ria Coutinho, Ms Damin Pereira, Ms Franshin Fernandes, ex MLA, Ms Farrel Furtado and 10 other ladies from Navelim, Varca, Benaulim and various other places while addressing the press said that they are solidly behind Mr Warren Alemao in his fight for justice, adding that Mr Aires Rodrigues has wronged in dragging an orphan boy into disrepute, who has been brought up in a decent and dignified family, into an incident in which he is not involved.
“Mr Aires Rodrigues has thus damaged the good reputation of this young boy who is known for his high moral values,” the ladies said while addressing the media. As a matter of fact, the hall was packed with the ladies as well as men in both the sessions of the press briefing, but all of them could not be accommodated on the dais and as such only few were asked to address the press.
Most of the ladies blamed the mother of the girl for sending the child alone at social functions when she knew very well that her child was a minor. They added that Mr Aires Rodrigues had no business to spoil the name of Mr Warren Alemao.
Ms Maria Rebello, another Zilla panchayat member said that Mr Warren is a God-fearing man and is blamed for nothing.
Most of the ladies also demanded to know from the mother why she did not take her daughter for medical examination and why she waited for 15 days to name another youngster like Mr Warren in the case.
Most of the speakers said that the story given by Mr Aires Rodrigues is concocted for reasons best known to him. Another young man said that when such allegations are made, youngsters tend to take extreme steps like suicides, which people making wild allegations have not bothered to realise.
