Goa XI win series

MAPUSA- Goa XI (U-15) emerged victorious in the two match series against Leicester (U-15) after being held to a goalless draw at Duler grounds here on Friday.
Goa had beaten Leicester City 2-1 at Poriat grounds in the first match and today’s draw meant the hosts won the series 1-0.
Leicester keen to square the series 1-1 had to sweat it out against the marauding Goan strikers Brandon Fernandes and Vikharam Singh.
Goa XI received the winner’s trophy, while Leicester City had to be content with the runners-up trophy. The players of both the teams were awarded medals and mementos, by the Chief Minister, Mr Digamber Kamat, who was the chief guest. British MP, Mr Keith Vaz was the guest of honour.
Meanwhile, Goa U-15 midfielder Lesten Martins was chosen by Leicester coaches to train in Leicester under the Lineker football scholarship programme. His name was announced by the Leicester delegation on Friday night at a function at a star hotel. Lesten ,14, is a student of St Britos HS Mapusa and is presently playing for Anjuna Gymkhana. He is also a former Goa United Sports Academy, Calangute player.
