PANAJI- Mr Aires Rodrigues, the lawyer for the German research scholar, on Sunday said the scholar’s minor daughter was scared of Monserrate family fearing that her deposition before the police might put her and the family in more trouble. The minor girl has been in the eye of the storm after her mother alleged that her daughter has been sexually used by Rohit, son of the Education Minister, Mr Atanasio Monserrate.
Mr Rodrigues told that ‘The Navhind Times’ that he along with NGO members, the SP, and the girl’s mother tried to reassure her that she would not be harmed and there would not be any repercussion once she deposes before the police.
The North Goa SP, Mr Bosco George refused to speak to the media on the investigation in the case on the plea that even after briefing the press conflicting reports were published.
He said if this trend continued then it would harm the investigation as the case is sensitive.
“We will speak to the press if we have something to comment on, and at present there is no further development in the investigation. Interrogation is in progress,’’ said the sub-divisional police officer and PRO, Mr Sammy Tavares.
On Sunday morning, Mr Rodrigues, the NGO members, the mother of the German minor girl and the SP had a long discussion to work out modalities for recording girl’s statement.
Mr Rodrigues alleged that a certain 22-year-old girl close to Rohit has been sending e-mails and pressurising the German girl not to depose before the police and also refuse medical examination.
Speaking about the summons to Rohit’s mother, Ms Jennifer Monserrate by the Calangute police to appear before them in connection with the case, Mr Rodrigues informed that Ms Monserrate had sought more time for deposition.
Meanwhile, hospital authorities discharged two persons Anthony Barretto and Alex Bocho who have been arrested on suspicion for their involvement in an attack on Mr Aires Rodrigues and Mr Prajal Sakhardande on October 13, 2008.
