Pretty Woman Penning with Beauty

"A thing of beauty is a joy forever, its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness,” said John Keats. As I sit across this luminous lady, Ms Wanda Alvares, radiating flawless beauty at her age, I am inclined to wonder if centuries ago, the famous English poet foresaw someone so beautiful and full of the joy of living.
Seeing the perfect grooming and poise, I apoligise for my chipped nail-polish telling her a mother needs to cook and clean and she chides me not to bother about the superficial. And then, to be at the receiving end of compliments regarding skin, hair, smile etc, from this lovely lady is absolutely overwhelming.w
I quickly shift the spotlight back on her. Decades ago, a mother at just 18 years of age – a kid herself, she bravely walked out of a stormy marriage by the time she was twenty five. She says, “I was really lucky to have had my family to support me. That’s why I could do it.”
She continues, “But then on, I saw the seriousness and the need to work in order to meet finances. I started off as a guest relations executive in a resort in Goa. Thereon I went ahead and joined Philip Morris in Dubai. After which I joined Xerox. That’s where I was really trained and groomed perfectly whereby I picked up my skills in sales, marketing and public relations.”
Countering the ever mounting challenges a single mother has to face in this country comprising predominantly of hypocrites, today, she is a proud magnate manning or shall we say wo-manning her own company, WOA (Wanda Oliver Artistic Group), where she takes care of her rock star son, Oliver Sean’s music career and launches new artistes regularly. The talk of the moment is the launch of her maiden book on beauty, ‘Natural Beauty’, on the 10th of this month.
Gushing with the enthusiasm and nervousness of a young girl, she excitedly says, “I am no writer. I just penned this book from my heart in very simple language. Hope it is appreciated by the readers.” I remind her about the advice I was given by my mentor, “Simple language will make you a popular writer, as you need to reach out to even the simplest person.”
So, what is her book about? She enlightens, “It is essentially on beauty where I am reminding women the importance of looking after themselves. It is only when you take care of yourself that you can take care of others efficiently.”
Now, haven’t we all heard that numerous times? But, why don’t we listen? The pretty lady says, “It is a woman’s nature to be selfless and take care of others constantly. But eventually you will burn out. Only you can look after yourself.”
She continues, “Apart from beauty, I am talking at length about relationships, injustices to women, female foeticide etc.”
What is really striking is when Ms Alvares cautions, “Women give so much of themselves in their relationships. They should take extreme care when it comes to men as males are predominantly self-centred and only look to satisfy the flesh. They lust while we women truly love. It is highly imperative never to lose yourself in your relationship otherwise you will truly suffer.” Oh women! Do we ever learn?
In her book she deals out comprehensive details on beauty, style, apparel, lingerie – just about everything to bring out the beautiful woman. She says, “The section of good men who respect their women, who I call real heroes, will enjoy this book too.”
The lady’s concluding message is, “You can do loads of things externally for yourself, but true beauty shines forth from within. You need to feel beautiful to look beautiful.
So, what are we waiting for? ‘Natural Beauty’ will be available in all bookstores in Goa. Go get one for yourself! - CV
