Architect of the Year awards declared

PANAJI- The Architect of the Year awards were instituted in order to encourage and honour the best architects in the country, as well as the neighbouring countries. The awards, numbering 12 in all, were initially started in the year 1988. The jury announced this year’s award winners on Saturday.
The awards are: Architect of the Year - Projects: Mr Sanjay Mohe, IPDO for Dr Reddy’s Lab, Bangalore, Karnataka. The Commendation Awards for private residence went to Mr Sachin K Patil from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, while the Public Building Award went to Mr P N Medappa from Bangalore.
For excellence in use of construction material the award went to Mr Vimal Jain from Bangalore and the Healthcare and Medical Building award went to Mr Iqbal Chaney from Pune.
Ms Brinda Parth Shah from Rajkot, Gujarat bagged the Young Architect’s award.
In another category, that is the Indian State Architecture Awards, (ISAA) for which the eligible states were Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala the State Architect of the Year Award went to Mr Jose K Methew, form Kottayam, Kerala; the State Commendation Award went to Ms Sheril Castelino from Auroville, Pondicherry, the State Young Architect’s Award to Lijo Jos, Thrissur, Kerala.
Under The Focus Countries Architecture Awards, architects from countries like Sri Lanka, Mauritius Scychelles, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh are honoured.
The Focus Countries’ Architect of Year Award went to Mr Birendra Gurung from Kathmandu, Nepal; the Focus Countries’ Commendation Award went to Mr Sheikh Ahsan Ullah Mojumder from Dhaka and the Focus Countries’ Young Architect Award went to Mr Asaduzzaman Chowdhury from Bangladesh. The jury consisted of architects from all parts of the country and included two from outside the country too. Mr M P Rawal, the president of the sponsor of these awards, J K Cement said that, to judge the architects they are asked for sectional plans, pictures from all angles, the description of the project and other such details that are placed before the jury.
This year a total of 151 entries were displayed before the jury from the awards that were initially instituted in 1988.
