Do you always dream of being creative? Do you often sit for long periods of time drawing and designing you artwork on canvas? Then here is a golden opportunity for you …
There are many people who have the skills of drawing but have not developed it as a profession. If this is the case with you too then, you can now become an artist by joining any of the fine arts colleges and gaining a formal education in the field. You can also learn how to put up an exhibition on your own, the depth of the paint study and the various fields you can get into?
The professor of Goa College of Fine Arts, Hanuman Kambli said, “A good human being with creative ideas can become the best artist. To be an artist first and foremost he/she needs to be a good human being.”
Further Mr Kambli adds, “A four year degree course in fine arts can groom any student to being a professional artist.”
Painting is the practice of applying colour to a surface (support base) such as paper, canvas, wood, glass, lacquer or concrete. When used in artistic terms, painting also means the use of this arts activity in combination with drawing, composition and other aesthetic means in order to manifest the expressive and conceptual intention of the practitioner.
“An artist is a person who falls in love with art like madness. The heart starts loving deeply and automatically and that is how an artist is born,” informs Mr Kambli.
For a painter, colour is not simply divided into basic and derived (complementary or mixed). Giving more information about the fields artists can get into Mr Kambli says, “The fields open for an artist are designing of magazines, books, brochures, synopsis, websites, film editing, graphic designing, animations, posters, print and electronic media for advertisements and more.”
The various painting styles are acrylic, enamel paint, encaustic (wax), fresco, gouache, ink, oil, water miscible oil paints, dry pastel, oil pastel, spray paint, (graffiti), tempera, watercolour and light.
An artist’s style of painting refers to the distinctive visual elements, techniques and methods that typify an individual artist’s work.
“Basically to be an artist you require to have art in yourself. An artist is the one who has the required qualities right from childhood and not one who is forced to take up this line by their parents,” says an artist, Yolanda de Souza.
Yolanda further adds “In Mumbai, artists have a better platform than Goa but if we go to see our Goan artists have uniqueness in their work that attracts domestic as well as foreign clients.”
In Western cultures oil painting and watercolour painting are the best-known media, with rich and complex traditions in style and subject matter. In the East, ink and colour ink historically predominated the choice of media with equally rich and complex traditions.
Mr Amey Chodankar a graduate in fine arts says, “I have learnt a lot of things after the completion of my course. Right now I am working for Nirvana T-shirts as an illustrator. To fulfil my dreams I am trying to expose my talents outside Goa as well.”
Interested students can opt for courses like BA in painting, BFA in painting, diploma in painting, MFA in painting or a UG diploma course in painting.
