Assembly passes bill to allow dhirios in state

PANAJI- The Goa Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Goa Amendment) Bill, 2009, to allow holding of dhirios (bull fights) in the state.
The private member bill was moved by Congress legislator from Curtorim, Mr Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco. The bill was passed unanimously.
Earlier, Mr Dayanand Narvekar introduced another private member bill, the Goa Town and Country Planning (amendment) bill, 2009.
The House also approved a private resolution to safeguard the school going children from fatal accidents by banning entry of heavy truck during school hours in areas where schools were located all over the state moved by Mr Manohar Parrikar.
Another resolution urging the government to initiate legal and administrative steps to protect residential and other constructions belonging to traditional fishermen, inhabitants and small entrepreneurs along the coastal belt in violation of CRZ regulations and moved by Mr Francisco D’Souza was also adopted unanimously by the House.
Yet another resolution moved by Mr Damodar Naik seeking return of acquired land by the government for specific purpose but not used for the same to the owners was withdrawn following assurance by the Revenue Minister, Mr Jose Philip D’Souza that government would study the proposal and if permissible would bring suitable legislation.
