PONDA- The government authorities have decided to conduct joint inspection of the stone crusher and a quarry situated at Ambadi-Keri on January 7 at 11 a.m. after the locals claimed that it causes pollution and gave ultimatum to take necessary action by January 20.
Sources revealed that Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), director of mines and other officials concerned would be inspecting the site.
“The locals and the panchayat, after observing that a few residential houses and cashew plantations were damaged due to pollution and blasting activities, complained to the deputy collector to take necessary action,” said the local panch member.
The locals alleged that they were not happy with the inspection done by the deputy collector and therefore a special meeting was held on Sunday, December 28 to decide on the future course of action. Accordingly they gave an ultimatum to the government to take necessary action by January 20, failing which they would not hesitate to come on the streets to press their `genuine’ demands.
