MAPUSA- St Rock’s Sports Club, Fatrade, scored a well deserved 3-1 win over Calangute Association in their fourth round match of GFA’s 1st Division League, played at Poriat grounds, Calangute, here today.
It was a brilliant display by substitute Roy Colaco who not only scored a brace but was instrumental in the third goal for Fatrade.
With today’s win St Rock’s stand with seven points, while Calangute remain on the bottom with three points.
In a barren first half, both teams had several good opportunities to take the lead, however the strikers faltered at the finish.
In the 22nd minute Fatrade’s Ashvy Rebello skillfully dribbled past the defender and beat the keeper with a neat placement, however he was denied a goal by an alert Calangute defender Maulali Naik who brought of a fine goal line clearance.
Calangute too had their chance, later in the half but Shadab Shaikh’s attempt was foiled by Fatrade keeper John Afonso who came up with a smart save.
On resumption of play Calangute keeper Siddesh Morje managed to push Perryson Rebello’s stiff grounder for a corner while at the other end it was Fatarde keeper John Afonso who parried away Sherwin Lobo’s blistering right footer over the post.
Finally Fatrade broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Nickson Rebello crossed the ball to a well-positioned substitute Roy Colaco who beat the defense and the keeper with an excellent header, 1-0.
Calangute were unlucky not to level terms minutes later in the match as a fierce header by Shadab Sheikh from outside the six-yard box was tipped over the post by Fatarde keeper.
Roy Colaco made no mistake to further consolidate the lead as he guided the ball into the goal of Valzino Fernandes cross.
The Calangute outfit brought smiles for the spectators as Shadab Sheikh controlled a long floater from Roystan Pereira and beat the onrushing Fatrade keeper with an adroit placement, 2-1.
Pepped up with the goal Calangute exerted pressure but it was poor finishing by substitute Francisco Fernandes who failed to get the equalizer. It was a miss kick by Calangute defender Avdhoot Kalangutkar, which saw Roy get hold of the ball and strike at the goal which saw Calangute keeper block his attempt. Ryan Fernandes who was lurking nearby tapped the ball past the helpless keeper, 3-1.
