Apollo Tyres declares lockout in factory

KOCHI- Alleging an illegal strike and obstruction of managerial and supervisory staff by workers, PTL Enterprises Ltd, manufacturer of Apollo Tyres, declared a lockout in its factory at Kalamassery here on Tuesday.
In a statement here, unit head Mr George Oommen said the company was left with no alternative but to declare lockout of the workmen of the factory with effect from Tuesday following “violent incidents” on the factory premises since Monday.
The statement alleged that the workers were not cooperating with the management’s efforts to streamline production in the face of the slowdown in the automobile industry.
According to PTL Enterprises Ltd, the workers resorted to “illegal stoppage of work and acts of indiscipline disrupting normal working of the plant on December 4.”
