Reginaldo for housing zones in rural areas

MARGAO -The Curtorim MLA, Mr Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has requested Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat that there should be a ‘demarcation of special housing zones’ in rural areas while preparing the Regional Plan 2021.
While making this request, Mr Lourenco has brought to the notice of Chief Minister that with the active support and co-operation of tenants’ associations in particular, and the public in general, along with the incentives provided by him to the farmers, he has been able to ensure the increase in the paddy cultivation in his constituency by at least 30 per cent.
He informed the Chief Minister that his immediate priority now is to cater to the housing requirements of his electorate so that every family in his constituency can live under a decent roof.
He said that it is important that the government recognises the role of non-governmental and community organisations, including gram sabhas of village panchayats, in assisting the underprivileged sections of the society to secure adequate and affordable shelter.
Mr Lourenco said that the Regional Plan 2021 would lose its meaning if it fails to take into account the growing demands of new houses in rural areas which could proportionally reduce the housing burden and congestion in urban areas.
He said that such special housing zones should include only such fallow land which is non-cultivable and is not low-lying and which is situated in close proximity to settlement zones and public roads.
He also suggested that the height of residential houses constructed in such special housing zones should not exceed 7 metre.
