PANAJI-The 2nd edition of the state’s largest gold and jewellery show by MMTC Limited - ‘Festival of Gold 2008’ will begin on November 28th 2008 at the Great Hall, Hotel Fidalgo, Panaji. The six-day event will give a unique opportunity to customers to purchase a variety of jewellery, medallions and silverware from a wide selection comprising of over 50,000 pieces, all under one roof. The exhibition is supported by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and is being organized in association with the World Gold Council and the Gitanjali Group.
The exhibition in Goa is part of MMTC constant efforts to provide quality, hallmarked gold jewellery to Goa customers. Purity of gold has always been a cause of concern for the common man. MMTC’s efforts all along have been to offer assayed, tested and hallmarked jewellery to consumers. BIS has been constantly working with MMTC to fulfill this objective. Jewellery on display has been tested for purity at BIS approved assaying and hallmarking centers. A market study on jewellery conducted by BIS indicated an average shortage of 13.51 per cent in purity from the declared purity across 16 towns in India. The shortage of purity in some cases was as high as 44.66 per cent. Despite prices of gold reaching an all - time high, people have been investing in gold, as it has always been a safe investment to opt for.
Gold has yielded better returns in the last few years than any other investment options. Considering the present economic scenario and the predictions that gold may soon be touching Rs 15,000 per 10 gms, it is possible that in economic crisis such as these, people are likely to turn to gold as a safer investment option compared to other alternatives.
At the gold festival, besides a large range of gold and silver coins of different denominations, MMTC will be presenting a stunning array of jewellery; both in plain gold and the studded variety, from various parts of the country namely – Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Goa.
