Minor German girl deposes before JMFC

MAPUSA - The minor German girl who was allegedly raped by the Education Minister Mr Antanasio Monserrate’s son, Mr Rohit Monserrate, on Saturday deposed before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Mapusa.
After initial reluctance, she deposed in camera before the Magistrate, Ms Justice Bela Naik on Saturday afternoon. The girl in presence of her mother arrived at the JMFC amidst tight police security. A team of Calangute police led by PI Mr Tushar Vernekar was also present.
The girl’s statement was recorded for nearly two hours in a closed chamber in the presence of a camera. Her statement was expected to be handed over to the police on Saturday evening.
Later speaking to the press, Mr Rodrigues, counsel for the victim’s mother, stated that the girl had given all the details to the JMFC. He said it was now the duty of the police to investigate the case. “The girl has deposed before the JMFC and her statement has been recorded. It is now for the police to act without succumbing to any political pressure,” he said. Mr Rodrigues declined to comment on what statement the girl made and added that he would come to know about it only when he receives a copy of the statement.
He also claimed that the girl was also willing to undergo a medical test as and when the police wanted. He said that all necessary material being sought by the police from the girl and her mother would be given to the police whenever sought by them.
Police said that they would arrest all the accused named by the girl in the deposition. Their sources claimed that the girl’s deposition would definitely give a boost to the investigation.
The minor girl’s mother had alleged that the girl was raped by Mr Rohit Monserrate and sexually exploited by Public Works Department Minister, Mr Churchill Alemao’s
nephew, Mr Warren Alemao. The complaint was filed on October 2 and the police recorded statement of the mother 12 days later. The police had deferred arrest of the accused in absence of the deposition from the girl.
