MoU signed for IFFI-2008

PANAJI- The memorandum of understanding for the International Film Festival of India 2008 was signed by the director of Film Festivals, Mr S M Khan and the secretary for information and publicity, Mr Narendra Kumar, in New Delhi, on October 22.
Informing about the signing of MoU, the director of information and publicity, Mr Nikhil Desai further told ‘The Navhind Times’ that the joint secretary (films), ministry of information and broadcasting, Mr V B Pyarelal will be arriving in Goa on October 24 to review the ongoing preparations for the IFFI 2008.
The government on Thursday appointed Mr Rajendra Talak as special invitee.
The information and publicity secretary has been named as ex-officio member on the governing council of the Entertainment Society of Goa.
Meanwhile, actress Tabu has been selected as one of the international jury members for the Competition Section at the 39th edition of the IFFI to begin on November 22. The jury will be headed by Peter Chan, noted film-maker from Korea.
The other members are Lav Dias, film director from Philippines, Iranian actress, Niki Karimi and Marco Muller, who is the festival director of the Venice International Film Festival.
The Competition Section will comprise films from Asia, Asia Pacific region, Latin America and Africa.
The name of the chief guest for the inaugural function of the mega film event as well as the names of the opening and closing films will be announced within a week’s time.
The foreign sections at the IFFI 2008 comprise of about 125 films, the Indian Panorama section will have 26 films, while non-feature films will have 21 entries.
For the first time, ESG has been entrusted with the programming of Country Focus (Iran) and Retrospective of US actor John Landis.
