PANAJI- The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat, recently, launched 'Goa Cinephile', a film club in the presence of Mr Tomazinho Cardozo, the chairman of the programme committee of the International Film Festival of India 2008.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister, who is also the chairman of the Entertainment Society of Goa hoped that ‘Goa Cinephile’ would provide good opportunities for the Goan movie lovers and will help to promote film culture in the state.
'Goa Cinephile' is an elite film club, which envisages an audience of film enthusiasts all under one banner, deliberating on world class cinema. It also aims to encourage movies as an art form, medium of information, education and entertainment, besides promoting the appreciation of cinema through lectures, discussions, workshops and exhibitions of films.
The film club will further encourage the study of cinema and its allied fields as a subject and career option and will facilitate easier registration to club members for IFFI 2008.
Membership will be granted to individuals above eighteen years of age who are currently involved in active cine clubs, or to teachers/ students of cinema as well as theatre or performing artistes of institutions recognised by the state and central government.
The writers of books on cinema and culture and other litterateurs, professionals related to cinema, television, radio, theatre and performing artists can also apply for membership to ‘Goa Cinephile’.
Membership will also be extended to diplomats whose assignments are related to promotion of cultural and film activities as well as senior government officials whose activity is related to the development of cinema and culture.
Goa Cinephile members will be given other privileges like free entry to all ESG organised film festivals and free access to the extensive ESG film archive and book library for one year. A special Goa Cinephile office will be set up during IFFI to assist its members.
Membership will be annual and is categorised as ordinary membership with a fee of Rs 1,300, including registration fees for IFFI and student membership of Rs 700 for students of recognised media-related institutions only. Further details are available on the website ww.iffigoa.org
