EDC conducting training course on event management

PANAJI- A 6-week Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme (ESDP) on event management is being held at EDC’s multipurpose auditorium ‘Nalanda.’ The programme is being organised by MSME Development Institute, Margao, a govt of India organisation, in association with the Centre for Empowerment and Excellence (CEE), an initiative of EDC Limited.
The principal of S S Dempo College, Panaji, Dr Shrikant V Deshpande inaugurated the event. “Goa is fast emerging as an event destination and there are tremendous opportunities and potential for growth of event management as a service industry”, he said while speaking on the occasion. He congratulated the EDC for having taken the initiative in designing and starting a training programme in the emerging field of event management and also complemented MSME for supporting the right type of programmes.
Mr W V Raman Murthy, managing director, EDC Ltd, presided over the function. In his speech, he said, “EDC would not only impart training in event management to the selected trainees but would also extend financial assistance to them to take up self employment”. Mr Murthy informed that EDC, under the aegis of its Centre for Empowerment and Excellence (CEE), would be conducting a series of project-specific and other related skill and management development programmes. Earlier, Mr Shivanand Bachagundi, assistant director (EI) MSME-DI, welcomed the gathering.
Mr Carlos De Sa, DGM, EDC Ltd, proposed the vote of thanks. The function was compered by Mr Newton D’Souza. The course contents of the ESDP on event management includes topics like event planning and control, event logistics, conference management, role of IT in event management, legal aspects for event management, media management and PR, leisure and tourism events, accounting and sources of finance, infrastructure requirement and other entrepreneurship and managerial inputs. The faculty for the programme includes practicing professionals from the industry and various leading institutions in Goa.
