2 nabbed with fake currency notes worth Rs 3 lakh

VASCO - The Vasco police arrested two persons for possessing 600 fake Indian currency notes of Rs 500 denomination amounting to Rs 3 lakh in the Vasco market on Friday morning. The duo has been remanded to 6-day police custody.
According to the investigating police officer, Mr Harish Madkaikar, the accused Saiful Mohammad Shaikh (22) and Tahil Ali Jabul (19), both natives of West Bengal, arrived at the Vasco railway station on Friday morning at around 10.30 a.m. and proceeded to Teles Pharmacy to purchase a toothbrush. They offered a Rs 500 note to the pharmacy owner to complete the transaction.
On verifying the note, the pharmacy owner sensed something fishy and after confirming that the note was fake, he informed the Vasco police who in turn nabbed the accused and recovered 600 fake currency notes from the duo. The police have registered an offence against the accused under Section 489 (A)(B)(C) read with 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Vasco PI, Mr Madkaikar is interrogating the accused to find out about the source of the fake currency notes. The Superintendent of Police, South, Mr Shekhar Prabhudesai also visited the Vasco police station and interrogated the accused. According to the police, there could be more people involved in the crime.
The Vasco police have appealed to the people and also the bank employees to be careful while transacting business. Meanwhile, sources have revealed that there are fake currency notes worth over Rs 2,000 crore being circulated in the Indian market.
